24 degrees Taurus: AN INDIAN WARRIOR RIDING FIERCELY, HUMAN SCALPS HANGING FROM HIS BELT
No-one saves us but ourselves. No-one can and no-one may. We ourselves must walk the path.
The Buddha
The reward for conformity is that everyone likes you but yourself.

Today another new moon swings around charging us with earthy, nourishing energy and calling us to honour and uplift that which we treasure. While the FULL MOON IN SCORPIO took us to the shadowy depths of the underworld, shining its light on our powerful and at times intimidating emotional tempests, this new moon in Taurus activates the opposite end of the axis of power. Inner resources, personal values, stability and growth are a soothing balm for our souls now after the intense celestial activity of the last few weeks.
During a new moon, which is also called dark moon or sometimes witch's moon, the lunar disc is in complete shadow. A deep darkness falls over the earth at this time of the cycle, and often we can feel low in energy and highly emotional. New moons act as a spiritual detox, releasing unhelpful patterns and attachments to make room for new growth in the coming month. It is essential to look after the body at this time, stay well-hydrated, eat sensibly and set boundaries to ensure you get silence, rest, solitude and sleep.
We may find at this time that issues of relating often surface, either within ourselves or with others. This is due to the fact that at new moon, our lunar orb is conjunct (next to) the sun, highlighting the interplay between the masculine (outer world) and the feminine (inner world). If something in your relationships is not in tune with your deep self, it will be obvious to you at this time and difficult to avoid. Fortunately, the astral energies support you in the task of composting right now, enabling an easier surrender and release.
TAURUS is the divine feminine, the earth mother, the holy cow. By nourishing herself, she feeds the entire world. The lessons of Taurus are everywhere in nature. One seed drops from a tree in a forest, takes root in the rich earth, is watered by streams and rain and strengthened by the sun. With persistence through time, it grows to be another tree, producing many seeds, which in turn will sprout into seedlings. This is the law of abundance, the multiplier effect. If we plant a seed of goodness for ourselves, the returns will be considerable, far greater than the seed initially planted.
Somewhere in northern New South Wales (of course), one Sunday in spring, cows graze peacefully in meadows soaked in sunshine. Every day they come to the same place, chewing up the green, juicy grass or lying under trees with blank expressions. They like to be together, to move together. There is security in their habitual sharing of time and space. Because of this security they can relax and drop in to the beauty of their surroundings – the sound of a clear stream bubbling over rocks, the tree-covered hills in the distance, an afternoon breeze that softly touches their wet noses.
But the security of the herd can sometimes be a limitation. There can be a tendency to look at what the others are doing, how fast they are trotting, or how much they are eating, and feel an inclination to match personal momentum to another's pace. One lesson of TAURUS is to maintain a direct connection to your deep self despite what friends, family, society, morality, politics and religion are doing, or urge you to do.
As humans we have an intrinsic need to be part of a group, a tribe and to feel accepted and validated. Ostracism and excommunication can not only be traumatic, but in earlier times, could compromise our actual survival.
TAURUS calls us to feel into this primal instinct, this insecurity. Accepting and validating this fear within ourselves can be deeply healing. Sometimes this can give us the strength to then be the black sheep, the outcast, the fugitive, the exile, knowing we are standing true to what has value for us, and what we are worth.
This truth is subtly powerful. It is self-love and self-care and it is soft, pink and easy to fall back on. Others who have also drawn from their inner resources will gradually join us. And there we are again. Chewing up the green, juicy grass or lying under trees with blank expressions, moving around the meadow, or standing still. Everything at our own pace. We don't have to try, keep watch on the other cows and match ourselves to them. It's easy. We are just ourselves. Gently, but persistently ourselves.
Venus, ruler of Taurus, is happily skipping through sociable Gemini. Love expands now with honest communication, interesting ideas, anecdotes, jokes and wordsmithery.
With the sun, moon and Mercury all transiting through Taurus at the moment, there is an abundance of earth energy. We may feel drawn to practice greater levels of caretaking of our physical bodies by exercising and/or eating nourishing foods. Practices that merge inner and outer worlds and bring awareness to the body, such as meditation, can also be helpful. But it's important that any new habits we implement now are enjoyable for us and come easily and naturally, moving at a pace we're comfortable with. Effortless is a key word.
Enjoy this dark lunation and allow your body, mind and emotions to release what's no longer needed. This coming moon cycle is sure to be pleasant and grounded, with alot of joy, connection and play in this physical world of matter we call our home.
